Day Four

Alas, O misfortune. This island of Cyprus must be cursed for the devil has taken many souls and destroyed all my close friends.

Since my last entry, much has occurred. Let me begin with explaining to you the issues of Iago. It seems that Iago was much more jealous then first appeared. With this jealousy along with his apparent hatred for Othello, he devised a plan to meet all his needs to ensure the downfall of Othello and I. Many incidents occurred that I cannot even begin to explain, but I assure you that my hatred is pure and Iago will never be forgiven. Iago put a wedge between Othello and Desdemona, with me as the main problem. Iago managed to create a story, which involved Desdemona and I having an affair. He destroyed my love life and ripped from me all that I held dear. My Bianca found Desdemona’s handkerchief in my room, Iago planted it there confirming Othello’s doubts of me and his wife.

Believing Iago’s lies, Othello killed Desdemona and eventually himself. Along with these two dead, Emilia and Roderigo were killed also to further Iago’s plot.

Othello might have spared Iago for he was great of heart, but the next time I see him he will be praying for death.

With the death of so many, everyone here is clueless on what to do. Othello was in charge, and after him Iago whom we obviously cannot trust. I suspect I will be reinstated and promoted to general until we get back to the mainland. I’m left to piece together the rest of Iago’s plots and discover how much damage he did.

Day Two

Reputation, reputation, reputation! O, I have lost my reputation. Thanks to my bad behavior last night at the celebration party. With Iago’s encouraging drinking songs and the fine ale provided I became wild. I have very poor and unhappy brains for drinking. I should have been more aware of my actions, although it wasn’t entirely my fault. I suspect that Roderigo purposely provoked me and intended me to misbehave. I never wanted to injure Montano, he’s a good friend of mine. Alas, with my mistake I lost my lieutenancy and all of Othello’s respect.

I should at least be happy for the safe arrival of our troops, I was very worried before they came. Yet, with tall the celebrations of parties, I never thought that this would happen. Never have I acted this way before, this atmosphere combined with the ale makes me drunk beyond all control.

To my surprise, Iago is being very kind and supportive; I regret judging him from the beginning. He’s been nothing but sympathetic and keeps encouraging me to talk to Desdemona. He says that I must speak with her and explain my problem, and she’ll pass it on to Othello. This idea seems foolproof! Desdemona is in fact our captain’s captain. I plan on talking to Desdemona today, hopefully Othello will be nowhere in sight. I have embarrassed myself and want to hide my face. I know Iago understands, and Desdemona is bound to as well. She is always so sensitive and defends what she believes is right.

I must go prepare myself for this difficult task ahead.

Day One

I am waiting patiently for the rest of my army to arrive on the island of Cyprus. The sea has been acting most unkindly. That so, approve the moor! O, let the heavens give him defense against the elements, for I have lost him on a dangerous sea.

My new general, Othello and his beautiful wife Desdemona, both old friends of mine, are hosting a party on the island to celebrate the drowning of the Turks and the Venetian army’s safety. I’m so happy that my two oldest have finally gotten together. With my weeks of assistance being the messenger between the two of them and delivering gifts, their love has been made official through marriage.

My lover Bianca will be attending, and I’m eager to discuss with Desdemona my current relationship and get her advice. Bianca, it appears, hopes to get more out of the relationship then I am willing to give. I suspect she dreams about thoughts of marriage, but that could never happen! I am a man of rank and power, and marrying a woman of her status is out of the question.

My current position is lieutenant, directly under Othello. I have my suspicions that Iago is jealous of this decision of Othello’s. Hopefully he will be able to look past his inopportune situation, and support my fair fortune.

The troop is expected to be here by sundown and I pray all arrive safely. I must be off to prepare for the arrival of the rest of the fleet and assist my busy general.
