I am waiting patiently for the rest of my army to arrive on the island of Cyprus. The sea has been acting most unkindly. That so, approve the moor! O, let the heavens give him defense against the elements, for I have lost him on a dangerous sea.
My new general, Othello and his beautiful wife Desdemona, both old friends of mine, are hosting a party on the island to celebrate the drowning of the Turks and the Venetian army’s safety. I’m so happy that my two oldest have finally gotten together. With my weeks of assistance being the messenger between the two of them and delivering gifts, their love has been made official through marriage.
My lover Bianca will be attending, and I’m eager to discuss with Desdemona my current relationship and get her advice. Bianca, it appears, hopes to get more out of the relationship then I am willing to give. I suspect she dreams about thoughts of marriage, but that could never happen! I am a man of rank and power, and marrying a woman of her status is out of the question.
My current position is lieutenant, directly under Othello. I have my suspicions that Iago is jealous of this decision of Othello’s. Hopefully he will be able to look past his inopportune situation, and support my fair fortune.
The troop is expected to be here by sundown and I pray all arrive safely. I must be off to prepare for the arrival of the rest of the fleet and assist my busy general.
